Rise&Fall is a mobile art installation and dance event commemorating the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. The exhibition features artwork submitted in an open submission process interpreting the theme ‘bringing down walls/breaking down barriers’ (both literally and symbolically) and music performed by Turkish-German DJ/Producer, DJ Ipek Ipekcioglu (www.djipek.com). The artwork will be display on digital picture frames and will be available for viewing on the Rise&Fall website, www.rise-fall.com. As a daughter of Turkish immigrants to Germany, DJ Ipek Ipekcioglu personifies the breaking down of cultural barriers and stigma. Not only has she been raised as a Turkish minority but also a religious minority (as a Muslim) and sexual minority (as a lesbian). DJ Ipek Ipekcioglu performs a style of music that directly represents her cultural diversity and pride fusing Middle Eastern with Berlin Electro to create a unique club experience. Her performances are the embodiment of contemporary Germany (post-Wall), smashing musical, cultural and social barriers through an eclectic mix of Eurasian sounds, drawing on minority subcultures and pop culture in Germany.

URBAN SOUNDS OF TURKEY – by İpek İpekçioğlu

Nach der preisgekrönten* Kompilation „Beyond İstanbul – Underground Grooves Of Turkey“, präsentiert die Queen des Eklektik Berlinİstan, İpek İpekcioğlu, nun BEYOND ISTANBUL 2 - URBAN SOUNDS OF TURKEY.

Die Record Release Party findet im Rahmen des Festivals BEYOND BELONGING IV - TRANSLOKAL in Zusammenarbeit mit der Kultursprünge e.V. am 03. November 2009 ab 21.30 Uhr im Ballhaus Naunynstraße statt. Highlight wird neben dem DJ-Duo İpekçioğlu (eklektik Berlinİstanisches) und Pasha aka Yavuz Ak (Minimal House), die mit ihrem Baba Zula Remix auf der CD zu hören sind und gemeinsam mit DJ Zigan Aldi (BalkanOrientalLatinGrooves) auflegen, die Soul-Band Orientation, die Akustisches von sich hören lassen wird. VJ Soner İpekçioğlu wird das ganze mit seinen Visuals verschönern.

BEYOND ISTANBUL 2 vereint unterschiedliche Musikrichtungen aus der Türkei, verleitet zum Tanzen und zum Nachdenken, macht wütend, erweicht und bringt zum Staunen. Es ist eine musikalische Reise quer durch die Türkei, von den entlegensten Orten bis mitten ins Zentrum. Eine Reise vorbei an Kitsch und Klischee, zu Hoch- und Subkultur - eine Reise typisch für İpek: so eklektisch wie dynamisch. Von Soul über HipHop und Trip-Hop bis hin zu Balkan-Klängen weiter über Tanzmusik der Roma vorbei am Rock bis hin zu sehnsuchtsvollen Tangoklängen, Arien und Chansons. Auf der CD kommen Berliner MusikerInnen wie, Orientation, DJ Pasha oder İpek İpekçioğlu selbst ebenso zum Zug, wie Stimmen aus der Diaspora: darunter Norrda, Burcu. Bewusst arbeitet der Mix mit verschiedenen Sprachen und verweigert sich der Monotonie in jeder Hinsicht. Auch das dreisprachige Booklet - geschrieben von dem Wahl-İstanbuler Martin Greve und Murat Meriç - mit Information zu den KünstlerInnen und ihren Sounds hält, was es verspricht.

The record relase party takes place during the festival BEYOND BELONGING IV – TRANSLOKAL , in cooperation with Kultursprünge e.V. on the 3rd. November 2009 in Ballhaus Naunynstr. in Berlin Kreuzberg.
Hightlight of the party is going be the live-band Orientation, who is on the cd, as well as the DJ-Duo İpekçioğlu (Eklektik Berlinİstan) and Pasha aka Yavuz Ak (Minimal), who are represented with there Baba Zula Remix on the compilation. DJ Zigan Aldi will spin some BalkanOrientalLatinGrooves. VJ Soner İpekçioğlu will support with his visuals.

BEYOND ISTANBUL 2 in cludes different musical styles of Turkey, and seduces to dance,
showing a Turkey, which also includes a subculture and überculture, and also plays with kitch and klichées, transmit political and social critiques which might also take you through a range of emotions. It is a typical work by İpek: that is eclectic as it is dynamic.

This album consists of soul, hiphop, trip-hop, Balkan, Tango, Rock, belly dance songs, chancons and electronica while keeping a traditional base. On the other hand, without going into the ubiquitous music on the market, Beyond Istanbul 2 takes music from Istanbul’s subcultures as well as traditional groups and puts them together.
The compilation includes booklet written in German, English and Turkish by Murat Meric and Martin Greve , both from Istanbul.

Drei weibliche Musikikonen sind die Stars des Konzerts Soho Sounds. Die Rapperin Ayben aus Istanbul, die Sängerin Tamara Tinka aus Belgrad und DJ İpek İpekçioğlu aus Berlin, die im angesagten Berliner Club SO36 griechische, arabische, kurdische, türkische und andere Klänge wild durcheinander mischt und dazu technoide Disco-Tracks mit Orientschlagern kombiniert. Dieser Konzertabend ist zugleich die Eröffnung des Festivals Soho in Ottakring.
